Dolores A. “Dee” Loberger, 96, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2016, in Green Bay, after a full, rich life caring for others as a teacher, mother, and friend.

Born in Cooperstown, Wis., on October 20, 1919, Dolores was the oldest of ten children of Irish parents, Helen (Reedy) and Michael Keehan. Coming from a long line of educators, Dolores, after graduating from Denmark High School, attended Manitowoc County Normal and later received her bachelor’s degree in Education from Silver Lake College, Manitowoc, while raising her family.

On June 7, 1944, she married Oscar Loberger and together they raised six children until his death on Dec. 8, 1995.

A consummate teacher, Dolores’ near 32-year teaching career reads like a history of education in the area, starting with her first job in the one-room Stark School teaching all eight grades through to the consolidation of the Denmark grade schools where she taught and inspired generations of students. She also taught at All Saints School.

Mention Mrs. Loberger’s name to anyone in the Denmark area and chances are good they, their child or their parent had her for a teacher.

Her passion for helping others continued throughout her life. After her 1985 retirement, she became an active member of the Brown County Retired Teachers Association. In 1988, she joined St. Vincent’s Volunteer Auxiliary as a lay Eucharistic minister and was, until age 90, the kind-hearted greeter in the surgical waiting room. In recent years it wasn’t unusual to find Dee reading to sight-challenged fellow residents at Bornemann Assisted Living Facility.

Dolores is survived by her six children: Robert Loberger, Green Bay; Carol (Rick) Hagerbaumer, Superior, Colo., and Alex and Masha; Mary Ellen (Robert) Spoerke and Anna Magdalena “Maggie”, Madison; Barbara Loberger, Green Bay; Michael (Gwen) Loberger, Denmark, and Kali; Alan (Carrie) Loberger and Ryan and Nathan, Littleton, Colo.

Other family survivors include sisters Katie Rasmussen and Teresa and husband Lee Carroll; sisters-in-law Marlene Keehan, Shirley Keehan, Caroline Leiterman; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents and husband, Oscar, Dolores was preceded in death by her brothers Ralph (Mary Jane) Keehan, Earl (Vernice) Keehan, Michael Keehan, Gerald Keehan; sisters Joan (Darrell) Umentum, Louella and Florence Keehan; infant daughter, Jane; and in-laws Rex Rasmussen, Willard (Janelle) Loberger, Urban (Christine) Loberger, Alice (Gene) Van Groll, and Frank Leiterman.

Dolores lost many dear friends and family members over her lifetime, but at 96, she was still vital and genuinely concerned and interested in the lives of everyone around her – from young and long-time family members and friends to the many people she engaged with on a daily basis. She loved, appreciated and cared for all of us.

Visitation will be at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason, Green Bay, Fri., April 22, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral Mass is at St. Mary’s of the Angels, 645 S. Irwin Ave., Green Bay, on Sat., April 23, at 11 a.m with one-hour visitation beforehand. Burial will follow at All Saints cemetery, Denmark.
