Haywood McKee passes Away On 74th Birthday
Haywood McKee, a familiar figure in Danville for the past thirty years as he bore well filled mail sacks about the city with cheerful and tragic news, died at his home on Stokes street, at 12:10 o'clock this morning. It was his 74th birthday and he had been ill for several weeks.
Mr. McKee, one of the best loved of the post office personnel during his long service, was born in Yanceyville, N C a son of James L McKee and Mrs Fannie Graves McKee. He came to Danville in early manhood and lived here until the day of his death.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Dora Hatcher McKee and the following children, all of them present when the end came: R Bruce McKee, of West Palm Beach, Fla., James P. McKee. Of Martinsville; Miss Thelma and Frances McKee, of Richmond; William L McKee, Haywood McKee and Albert McKee, all of this city. He also leaves a brother, John F McKee, of Sylvatus.
The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock from the home of his son, William L McKee, on the Martinsville Road near the city and interment will be made in Green Hill Cemetery.
