William Denison was the son of Edward and Elizabeth (Welde) Denison. Edward was in 1665 the first town clerk of Roxbury, and a representative in 1652 and 1655. Edward's father was William Denison, who came to America from England on the ship "Lion" with his wife and three youngest sons, settling in Roxbury in 1631. He is often mentioned in the early history of the town.
