Sir John Barnard, Politition. He was born into a prominent Quaker family, and was the brother of Thomas Barnard, who built a tomb for family members at Kingston-Upon-Thames. However, John read widely and was baptised into the Church of England, aged eighteen. He was the son of a wine merchant. He was elected to Parliament as independent member for the City of London in 1722, and served till 1761. He was elected lord mayor of London in 1737. The family vault, was examined and destroyed in 1996, at which time, the gruesome discovery was made, that body-snatchers had been at work.
