At different times, he lived with his sister Agnes Wallace Latimer and her husband James Baird Latimer and their children in Manotick, Ontario; and also with his brother, Dr. David Wardrope Wallace, his wife Esther Angelia Eastman Wallace, and their children in Metcalfe and Kemptville, Ontario.
Robert died on May 1, 1901 in North Gower, Carleton County, Ontario.
