Florence was the daughter of Amos Franklin and Jane Wilbert Fay, who were born in the state of New York.
She was born in Buffalo, New York. She had sisters Elizabeth and Anna J. plus two brothers Henry and George.

Her mother Jane died four days after giving birth to her youngest sister Anna J. in New York . Then in the 1870 Census the family was living in Indianapolis. Florence because a teacher and lived in Indianapolis till 1912.

Florence never married but she had a lot of children because she was a Teacher. She taught school at the old Woodside School, Indianapolis, Indiana. When a new school was built in 1913 that school was named after her. That school is Florence Fay School #21 at 2815 English Ave. in Indianapolis. In 2013 the school will be 100 years old. The school is closed but good times will always be remembered from the many students that walked those hallways.

In a old School #21 PTA Year Book 1963-1964, I found that Florence Fay was the first principal at the old Woodside school from 1891-1909.

She is buried in the Ayres Family Plot, with her sister Anna, and brother-in law Alexander and nephew Elliott. Look up her sister grave site which is Anna Ayres, there will be another picture of this Family Plot.
