James Wesley Nibel, a son of Joseph W. and Damiah Nibel, was born in Lucas County, Iowa, April 14, 1854, and passed from this life July 21, 1930, at Gowrie, Iowa at the age of 76 years, 3 months, 7 days. He grew to manhood in Lucas County, where he was united in marriage to Miss Mary E. Liggett, February 8, 1876. To this union were born eight children seven of whom are living. One son, Lester E. Nibel preceded him in death in 1918. He moved with his family to Gowrie, Iowa, in 1880. There he united with the Congregational Church, later transferring to the Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1896, the family moved to a farm near Paton, Greene County, where they resided four years, then moved to Dayton, where they lived until the death of Mrs. Nibel in 1914; since then he has lived with his children. He was a member of the M. E. Church in Dayton at the time of his death. Seven children, five daughters and two sons survive to mourn his passing: Mrs. Alice Edgerton and Mrs. Gertrude Mumper of Gowrie, Mrs. Elsie Scharf and Mrs. Edna Hilton of Fort Dodge, Mrs. Irene Reed of Eldora, Iowa, Joseph W. Nibel of Dayton, and Harry W. Nibel of Havelock, Iowa. Thirty-five grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren also survive, two brothers and two sisters, George of Santa Ana, Calif., Henry of Ames, and Belle and Mattie also living in California. His funeral was held last Thursday afternoon from the M. E. Church, Rev. Karl W. G. Hiller, the pastor, officiating, and his remains were laid to rest in Dayton cemetery. He lived his span of life with courteous and upright manhood, and he will be missed among a large circle of friends, who held him ever in the highest regard.
