Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the Brice Baptist Church for P.M. Baten, 56, who died in a Memphis hospital Sunday morning at 8 o'clock.

Rites were conducted by Rev. Milton Evans. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery in Memphis. Baten had been in ill health for a number of years. He sold his farm near Clarendon last fall, and had been in several hospitals in an attempt to regain his health.

Born in Falls County, Baten moved from there to Wise County while still young. He moved from Wise County to Hall County in 1928, and settled near Brice, where he had made his home since. He was 56 years, 3 months, and 29 days of age at the time of his death. His wife, the former Minnie May Estes, to whom he was married August 27, 1911, survives.

Other survivors include three children, Arnold Baten of Moran, Barney Baten of the Indian Creek community in Hall County, and Barnetta Baten of Amarillo; two sisters, Martha Bryan and Clara Griffin, both of Greenwood; and four brothers, Jean Baten of Greenwood, Winburn Baten of White Deer, Press Baten of Brice, and Joe Baten of Pampa. He was a brother-in-law of J.B. Estes of Memphis.

Pallbearers were Talmadge Smallwood, Cal Holland, J. Johnson, Cecil Rich, Zack Salmon, and Bill Wood. Flower bearers were wives of the pallbearers.
