Peter Fleck came to America as a ward and nephew of Johann Georg Philipp Gemmer.

"Mr. Peter Fleck Sr. died in living faith February 10 at 10:10 am. He was born May 16, 1836 in Rettert, Duchy of Nassau, to Philipp Peter Fleck and his wife, nee Gemmer. He had the heavy misfortune of being orphaned at a young age. In his 13th year he came to this country with his guardian Philipp Gemmer, at first to Tuscarawas County where he was confirmed by pastor Abele. Later he came to Indiana to this area. Here he married Katharina Gemmer in 1859. Their marriage was blessed with 10 children, 2 of whom died early. The main part of his character was faithfulness and simple, child-like faith. He was a praying Christian. In 1908 he had the joy of celebrating his golden wedding with his wife and family. Shortly before his wife's death 2 weeks ago, he had a cold and due to the grief over her death and the strain of the funeral, his illness became worse and accelerated the end, to which he looked forward in prayerful faith. He died at the age of 76 years, 9 months, and 4 days, and leaves 6 sons, 2 daughters, and 15 grandchildren. Funeral text: Gen. 24:5-6." (St. Paul's Church Book pg. 90)
