Captain Julius Capon Dead.
After an illness covering a period of
two years. Captain Julius Capon passed
peacefully away, at 10 o'clock, Tuesday
morning at the age of 69 years. He was
born in Translay,Canto of Bopaume, De
partment of Pas-De-Calais, April 5,1828.
He sailed to America in 1851 settling
in Boston, where he worked for two
years as a clerk. His next move was
to St. Louis where he lived for a very
short time and moved to Wabasha in
1854. On August 12, 1857 he was mar
ried to Victoria Larive, of Prairie Du
Chien. Five children, four of whom sur
vive him, was the result of this union. In
1859 he left Wabasha for Redwood
Agency where he accepted a clerkship
from Alexius Baley. In 1861 he was one
of the first to respond to his country's
call for troop, and enlisted in the 1st
Minnesota and later served in the 2nd and
9th Minnesota. He possessed all the quali
ties of the brave soldier and for his
bravery was promoted from the ranks
of private to that of captain. He loved
the American flag with a devotion Im
measurable and was happiest when
speaking of his exploits on the field of
battle. He was a man of many fine
qualities and was a conspicuos figure in
the history of the city. His funeral oc
curred from St. Felix church at 10 o clock
this morning, under the auspicices of
Hancock Post of this city, of which or.
ganzation he was a faithful member.
Father Wurst officiated. His remains
were laid to rest in St.Felix cemetery.
