She was born Aug, 15 1927 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to parents Roy and Grace Wilson. Their elder sister Shirley Wilson was 21 months older than Ilene and younger brother Richard was born 11 yrs later. Though troubled by a loss of a home during the great depression, Ilene and Shirley had great fun, took dancing lessons together until forced to quit because of lack of funds. She did take violin lessons and became quite proficient on the instrument for school orchestras, etc. Roy Wilson was a jeweler and Grace had several years of college and had taught school. Ilene continued to excel in her schoolwork. In high school she took creative writing and decided she wanted to be a writer. After graduation from South high in Denver, She clerked in various ready to wear stores. She entered University of Colorado, but was forced to quit after two quarters because of a lack of funds. After two years of marriage, a tragedy ocurred. Warren came down with polio and died within a few days. The polio vaccine came out a few months later. After his death, Ilene returned to her home to complete her education. She received her BA from University of Denver in 1958. She retired from teaching in the Denver Public Schools in 1986, having taught at North High and Thomas Jefferson High.
She married James E Allen of Arvada in 1962. After her retirement, she continued to pursue interests, such as ballet and bird watching, especially of the endangered species, the bald eagle. Ilene was much loved by her many friends and family. She was an imaginative, fun-loving, generous and compassionate person, who will be sadly missed.
She is survived by her husband, James Allen, sister Shirley Rodriguez, brother Richard C Wilson and nephew Brad L Rodgers. Brother in law, William Allen and his wife Betty Sue. And their children, Mike Allen, James Allen and Susan Allen
