Charles Richard Shoop, Sr., 89, East Loop, Hollidaysburg, died Tuesday. He was born in East Loop, son of Charles Roy and Laura Elizabeth (Weld) Shoop. He married Alicia Anne Adams June 10, 1961, at the Vicksburg Brethren Church. Surviving are his wife; two sons: Charles Richard Jr. and wife, Phyllis, Blythewood, S.C., and Douglas Allen and wife, Dana, Gainesville, Va.; daughter, Debbie Hockenberry and husband, Max, Charlotte, N.C.; 7 grandchildren; 2 gr. grandchildren; and sister, Jessie Weber of Hollidaysburg.
Predeceased by brothers: Lewis B. Wilson, Roy, Robert and Jim; and sisters: Olive Cleo Shoop, Velma Brubaker and Vera Shultz. Charles was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and attended Penn State University and King's College. He was a WWII Army Air Force veteran, serving in the 810th AAF. He retired in 2000 from Danner Supply as a pump mechanic. Charles was a charter member of Reservoir Bible Church. He enjoyed Bible study, his family, gardening and farming. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Fri., Jan. 8, 2010, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Sat., Jan. 9, 2010, at Reservoir Bible Church by Pastor Tom Butler and Pastor Steven Burns. Interment, Alto-Reste Park Cemetery with military honors.
