Clifton "Curley" Carpenter
(February 7, 1920 - January 4, 2010)

Clifton "Curley" Carpenter of Woodsbend, KY, passed away Monday, January 4, 2010 at Morgan County Appalachian Regional Hospital, West Liberty, at the age of 89 years, 10 months, and 28 days. He was born on Saturday, February 7, 1920 in Woodsbend, KY, a son of the late D.O. and Ollie Frances May Carpenter.
Clifton was a retired professor from East Tennessee State University at Johnson City, where he taught in the Department of Geography.

He was a Veteran of World War II, having served as a First Lt. in the Army Infantry Division.

He was a member of the West Liberty Kiwanis Club for many years, serving on various committees.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, D.O. Carpenter, Jr. He is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Anderson and Emma Dean and Wilmer Cecil all of Woodsbend, KY; two brothers, Jim and Barbara Carpenter of Locust Grove, GA and Ben and Marilyn Carpenter of Winter Haven, FL; three nieces, Rhonda and James Rupe of West Liberty, KY, Donna Melhorn of Louisville, KY, and Myra Mayes of Morehead, KY; three nephews, Brent and Kim Cecil of Somerset, KY, Greg Cecil of Mt. Sterling, KY, and Jimmy Carpenter of Atlanta, GA; and nine great nieces and nephews.

Funeral service 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2010, at the Potter Funeral Home, West Liberty, KY with Rev. Bud Angus officiating. Burial in the May Cemetery, Woodsbend, KY. Visitation from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2010, at the Potter Funeral Home.

Memorial donation suggested to the Woodsbend Community Church or the West Liberty Kiwanis Club.

The family would especially like to thank his caregivers, Teddy Peyton, Gwen Cantrell, and Shenna Gamble for their excellent care and concern of Clifton.
