Harriet Mershon Hunter, 88, a life resident of Scioto County, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

She was born April 7, 1921, in New Boston, to the late Henry S. Mershon and Mary Ellison Mershon. She was employed 33 years by the Williams Manufacturing Company.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Hunter, on Feb. 4, 2005; brothers, Walter, Sherman, William, Robert and Ralph; and a sister, Elizabeth.

She is survived by a brother, of Groveport, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

She attended Bigelow Church. She was a member of Portsmouth Chapter of Eastern Stars No.424; White Shrine No.35; Amaranths No.31; Joseph Spencer Chapter D.A.R.; Federated Republican Women; Hope Guild of Southern Ohio Medical Center; Millbrook Council D. of A.; Genealogy; and the Scioto County Historical Society. She was also a Kentucky Colonel.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2010, at F.C. Daehler Mortuary Company in Portsmouth, with Pastor Steve Schueren officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Daehlers and also one hour before the service. Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park.
