Aged Allegheny Citizen Hangs Self at Old Home
(Special to Daily News)
Elkin, March 22.--Allen Moxley, 84, well known citizen of Alleghany county, ended his life yesterday morning by hanging himself with a rope on the porch of his former home, now unoccupied, near Vox about 10 miles northeast of Sparta. Despondency on account of feeble health, loneliness and threatening blindness is supposed to have been the cause of the act.
Since the death of his wife about 20 years ago, and the subsequent marriage of his children, the aged man had lived alone on his mountain farm, until two months ago when by the persuasiveness of one of his sons, he moved into a cottage which his son erected for him just behind his own residence.
