William was born in Avoca, Iowa on October 9, 1887. He was one of two children
of Bertha Mandelkow and William Preuss. William married Caroline Eggerss at the
family home south of Shelby on February 17th, 1909. They farmed around Shelby
until 1929 when they moved to Shelby where William operated the Standard Service
Station. He was associated with the service station for 49 years. He and Caroline were members of the United Lutheran Church and celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in February of 1984
