DeAndra met a tragic end to her life and was buried in Hope Cemetery Tuesday after an emotional funeral service at St. Monica Church.

Hundreds of her family, friends and acquaintances flocked to acknowledge a life ended long before it should have.

Mourners - many of them students from Spaulding High School where Florucci was a sophomore, dozens more filled the vestibule in the front of the brick church, craning their necks to see inside and straining to hear what was being said. Still others squeezed on to the balcony - several leaning over the railing throughout the service.

Some sobbed uncontrollably. Others sought to console them. They hugged, held hands and listened intently as those who knew Florucci best choked back tears while speaking of their slain friend.

A poem she co-authored for her grandfather's funeral was read.

The Rev. Daniel Rupp, who co-officiated Tuesday's service with the Rev. Peter Routhier and Rev. Herman Benjamin, pastor of the Hedding United Methodist Church, delivered a particularly poignant address.

"This is a huge, huge loss," Rupp, said, asking mourners to consider the story of Italian composer Giacomo Puccini who began working on a new opera when it was clear he would not live to finish it.

According to Rupp, Puccini told those closest to him to finish his masterpiece and he (Rupp) described the opening performance during which the conductor stopped the orchestra to mark the place where Puccini left off.

"He (the conductor) said: 'This is where the master ends and this is where his friends pick up,'" Rupp said, recounting a touching transition and asking mourners to carry on in Florucci's absence.

"What are we going to do with this unfinished masterpiece?" he asked rhetorically.

"The music does not have to stop here … we can finish what she (Florucci) could not finish herself," Rupp continued, challenging the standing room only crowd to "reject the culture of death … reject the culture of violence" that was responsible for the senseless tragedy that brought them all together.

"We need to control our language, our thoughts and certainly our actions," he said urging those in attendance to be "peacemakers."

"That would be a wonderful tribute to DeAndra," he said, during a service that fittingly ended when mourners filed out of the church to the song "Let There Be Peace On Earth."
