Bessie May (Abernathy) Abernathy, age 39, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday night, May 28, 1942, at her home.

Daughter of the late James Abernathy (1857–1927) and Margaret "Maggie" Case Abernathy (1858–1949); wife of William Noah Abernathy (1899–1982).

A member of Canaan Baptist Church.

Survivors also include her daughters, Frances Lee Abernathy Garrett (1922–2003), Ruby Mae Abernathy Easler Griffin (1924-1975), Thelma Louise Abernathy Sanders (1928–2019), Celeste H. Abernathy Varner (1933–2003), and Gladys Abernathy Hughey (1937–2016); son, J. C. Abernathy (1920–1997); sister, Lena Carrie Abernathy Alley (1905–2000); brother, Fred Abernathy (1889–1973), Paul Abernathy (1894–1972), David Abernathy (1896–1980), and Boyce Lee Abernathy (1910-1995); and two grandchildren.

Also predeceased by siblings, Martha Abernathy McKelvey (1891–1936), Mamie Lee Abernathy McAbee (1900–1936)

Funeral services were held at 11:00 am at Canaan Baptist Church by Rev. A.V. Kirby and Rev. Dallas Mathis.
