Worts/Wirtz
(NOTE: Theodore's last name had various last names recorded as a member of the Union Army during the Civil War which were: Wirtz, Warts, Wirts, Wertz or Worts. On his pension application it was signed "Worts". His parents were Franz Wirtz (1808-1838) and Anna Maria (Oehmen) Wirtz (1811-1902). Anna remarried Michael Winkels in 1839. At the age of 7, Theodore and his mother and stepfather departed Germany in 1843 and arrived in the New York port. - Vern Paddock)

According to the Belvidere Daily Republican, Belvidere, Illinois dated April 26, 1927:
"THREE DIE IN CAR CRASH ON STATE HIGHWAY
WOMAN AND TWO MEN KILLED OUTRIGHT AT CARPENTERSVILLE WHEN CARS COLLIDE ON HILL - MACHINES CATCH FIRE AND ARE DESTROYED - TWO INJURED TAKEN TO ELGIN.
Mrs. Elizabeth Hanson, 70, of Chicago, Jacob Worts, 60, of Elgin, and his father, Theodore, 90, of Wauconda are dead as the result of an auto crash at Carpentersville Monday.
Mrs. Hanson, her daughter, Mrs. Anna Cavanaugh and C.D. Roberts, all of Chicago, were driving north on what is known as Carpentersville hill on state highway No. 22 in a Studebaker sedan when a Ford sedan, occupied by Jacob Worts and his father, approaching from the opposite direction crashed into them.
Fred Holtz, a farmer living near the scene of the crash, went to the aid of the victims immediately but found that Mrs. Hanson, Jacob Worts and Theodore Worts had been killed instantly and Mrs. Cavanaugh and Roberts seriously injured. The injured were taken to the Sherman Hospital at Elgin where it was found they were suffering from fractured ribs and probably internal injuries.
An inquest was to held today."
