PAUL HARGRAVES IS FOUND DEAD
Investigation Being Conducted in Mysterious Affair at Millwood

Paul Hargraves well known farmer of the Mount Green section, was found dead on a country road near Millwood this morning, and county authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of death.

According to information received at the sheriff's office this morning, Hargraves was shot to death. His assailant was unknown, the informant declared in a telephone message to Sheriff Henry Sweat.

A coroner's jury was empaneled, and was sworn in by the Justice of the Peace B. D. Warren, acting coroner.

Hargraves served for a short time as a bailiff in the Millwood district, having resigned the office a short-time ago.

The Ulmer Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

...SURVIVORS He is survived by his widow, two sons, Nick and Alvin Hargreaves, and three daughters, Misses Renna, Burreldine and Corinne Hargreaves, all of the Mount Green section; also a brother Mark Hargreaves of California, and two sisters, Mrs. Joe Morgan and Mrs. N. E. O'Berry.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at Hargreaves Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Joe Crews, with interment at Hargreaves cemetery...

SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS DEATH

ATLANTA, Ga., Nov 12 -(UP) (in part)
Only executive clemency stood between Wilson Spikes convicted love-triangle killer and the electric chair today.
The State Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of Spikes, sentenced to die for the slaying of Paul Hargraves near Waycross....[This sentence was commuted to life. On Dec 2, 1940, he escaped and was recaptured Dec 19, 1962 in DeLeon Spgs, Florida living with his sister under the name of Charlie Sanders. (The Sarasota Herald Tribune, published 20 Dec 1962, Thursday) Spikes was returned to prison; paroled Jul 16, 1970, which was revoked in Jan 1971.]
