Obituary Memphis Democrat, Memphis, Missouri:
Forest Poe Dies At Home South of Downing.

Forest Poe, second son of Otis E and Ina Reed Poe, was born December 21, 1904 near Downing and departed this life at his home south of Downing on January 17, 1971.

He was united in marriage to Charity Delinger in December, 1924. To them were born four children, two daughters, Mrs. Allen (Nellie Lee) Woodruff of Kahoka, Missouri, and Mrs. Gilbert (Judith Ann) Schmitter of Downing, and two sons, Forest Dale of Downing, and William Otis of the home.

Forest spent his entire life in the Downing community. After he graduated from high school, he taught at Walnut Grove for part of a term as a substitute teacher and one full term. He then bought a farm which he operated while working part time for the MFA Co-op in Downing until 1942 when he purchased the farm where he lived at the time of his death. In 1958, he went from general farming to a Grade A dairy farm. As a very young man he united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Downing. He was a Past Grand member of the I.O.O.F Lodge No 467 of Downing.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, an infant sister and two infant bothers. He is survived by his wife, his four children, a daughter-in-law, two sons-in-law, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves a brother, Eugene and wife, Dorothy, a sister, Faye and husband, Leland Jackson, all of Downing, several nieces and nephews, five aunts, and a number of cousins and many friends.

Forest was a devoted husband and father and enjoyed an especially close relationship with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was active in community affairs as long as his health permitted and was always ready with a helping hand when needed. He will be sadly missed not only by his family, but also by his friends.

Funeral services were held at the Downing United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 19th, with Rev. Kenneth Campbell officiating. Music was furnished by the Coffey Choir. Body bearers were Bill Poe, Bob Poe, Quentin Lewis, Jim Wray, Ed Riney and Steve Swindler. Burial was in the Downing cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Moore Funeral Home.
