Mom was born in Newton Kansas, she lived on her family farm. Times were hard & she moved with her parents as a child to California in hopes of a better life. Her parents brought with them their hard working farm ethics & life got better for them in California. Her Father worked as a mechanic & her Mom as a labor & later a nurse. My Mother met my Father her paperboy while both were still in High School. With World War II going on my Father joined the Navy. When he returned my Mom & him married in Las Vegas, Nevada on August 11, 1947. Nine months later their 1st daughter, Diane was born. They would go on to have 6 children, 5 girls & 1 boy. Mom was a house wife in the early years but after I was born, their last child she went back to school & became a nurse. First she was a LVN and worked as that for years before returning to school once more & became an RN. She worked hard long hours but loved being a nurse. My parents had their first house in Landcaster CA, then they moved to Torrance CA. Church was an important part of my Mom's life she belonged to Christ the King Lutheran Church in Torrance & was a Sunday School teacher. My parents had always dreamed of living in Morro Bay CA, and had bought a lot with dreams of moving there some day & building a house. We spent many of summers in Morro Bay camp grounds. When my father retired from the Plumbing union in 1975, that dream came true & we moved to Morro Bay. While my Dad started building their dream house my Mother went to work at the hospital in San Luis Obispo. She also joined the Morro Bay Lutheran Church & was very active in it. I was still in High School when the house was finished & we moved in. My Dad then with time on his hand opened Morro Bay Hardware store. When my Mom retired she joined my Father working at the Hardware Store together. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1997 by renewing their wedding vows in the Morro Bay Lutheran Church. With their kids, family & friends by their sides. In late 1999 my father became sick & was hospitalized. When the doctors said things did not look good my Mother took him home & took care of him. He passed away on February 14, 2000, with my Mom by his side. He left behind his dog, Skippy who became my Mom's constant compainion. After my Dad passed away my Mother was lonely in Morro Bay. All of her children lived in other area's of the state. She asked me to find her a place near where I & her brother Donald lived. We found her a nice home on a large lot in Temecula just 2 miles from my house & in 2001 she moved in. She just loved her new home as the large yard allowed her to garden. She spent many hours almost daily working in her yard, with Skippy by her side. She found a nice church to join and she was as happy as she could be without my father, who she missed everyday. In September of 2008 one of my Mom's neighbors called me & said she had taken a fall in the yard & hit her head. I came right down and she could not move her right side. We took her to the hospital & found out she was hemorrhaging in the brain. She was still talking with me and wanted them to do surgery to try to stop the bleeding and remove a clot that had formed. The surgery went well but later while in the hospital she started running a fever. Things did not go well from there. My Mother had always said she did not want do die in a hospital but at home just like my Dad. So I took her home, she was able to see all her church friends & most of her family to say good bye. Her dog Skippy was so happy she was home again. She passed away in the evening on the 28th of Oct. with my sister Kathy & myself at home with her. My Mom had a good life, she was a good person & a Great Mom. She left behind all her children, many Grandchildren & Great-Grandchildren & her loving dog Skippy who lives with me now. She is missed but we take comfort that she is with our Lord & Savior.
It took me almost 2 years to be able to write the Bio on my Mother. It was not an easy thing to do she was so much more then what was written here...Maryjane
