After arriving in America her father changed his name to Rasmus Brus "Robert Bruce" Christensen, at that time he changed his children's last name from Rasmussen to Christensen.
Inger Marie married on August 06, 1876 in Big Flats, Adams County, Wisconsin, to Jens Larsen, who also immigrated with his parents from Denmark. To them were born eight children in Big Flats, Adams County, Wisconsin.
On December 15, 1900, Inger Marie Christensen's husband Jens Larsen died leaving her with small children to raise. In order to support her family, she started to work for Nels Peter Jensen, (whose wife had just passed away leaving him with small children) as a housekeeper and cook. After a couple of years they decided to marry. I don't know if it was love or necessity, but I do know there was mutual respect between them.
I don't think Inger Marie could write in English very well, but she did write in Danish. I have a letter written completely in Danish that she wrote to her daughter, my grandmother Margarethe. I can't read it but I understand its about my grandfather Charles Leeches, death. I wish I could find someone who could read Danish and would be willing to translate all of it for me. Also I have quite a few sheets of paper, which were written in half English and half Danish. It appears parts of it were some kind of a grocery list and parts was when a child was born into her family all mixed up with each other. Instead of getting a new sheet for births, she just used an old grocery list. My mother said, thats because she pinched every penny. My mother said, (and I have the Xmas card) that one year someone sent her an Xmas card and she just wrote over it and sent it on to my mother Jessie, so she'd know that her grandmother was thinking of her during Xmas.
Inger's hobby was quilt making and she made hundreds of quilts, with many given as wedding presents or Christmas gifts. Grandma Jensen, as she was known around McCabe, Montana, was always on the lookout for new quilt designs.
Inger had always been very active but in her later years she became quite feeble. However, Mrs. Jensen still managed light house work and prepared meals for her and her husband, who's eyesight became dim in his later years. Mrs. Jensen was a member of the Lutheran Church there in McCabe, Montana where she taught Sunday School for four years.
