George Ridgley (47131730)

Suggested edit: George Wm (Sr), son of Richard and Mary Hyme, was born October 3, 1799, in Maryland but moved with his family to what would become Lukin township, Lawrence County, IL where he purchased 73.72 acres from the government May 4, 1839, at $1.25 per acre. (West ½ of NW ¼ Sec 4, T2, R 13). Ridgley cemetery was created on part of this property.
George Wm (Sr) died on March 15, 1863, at age 63 years, just months before his father. This may have moved his father to write a will and get his affairs in order because when he wrote his will, April 21, 1863 he mentioned that the heirs of his son, George Wm were to inherit George's share. (Researchers may want to check death dates of Richard Wm Sr's other children, because it is unlikely that any of the others died before Richard did, as he devised property directly to them, and not to their heirs.)
George Wm (Sr) did not write a will so the court appointed his son, Alfred, as his administrator when George Wm's widow, Mary renounced. An inventory, appraisal, bill of sale, several receipts for claims and distribution of dower to Mary was found in an estate packet in the Lawrence County Courthouse but no listing of heirs. Alfred noted that his father's personal property was not over $500. Among other claims, seven dollars was paid to Henry Goines for a coffin. George Wm (Sr) is buried at Ridgley Cemetery, Lawrence County, Illinois.
