George E. Dixon

Aurora - George E. Dixon, 89, of Aurora, formerly of Marseilles, died Sunday, Oct. 12, at Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora.

He was born May 27, 1919, in Wilmington, DE., the son of the late Sylvester W. and Rachel (Foraker) Dixon.

George served his country honorably during World War II in the U.S. Navy as a pharmacist's mate. Prior to the Navy, George worked for Bakelite Corp. (later known as Union Carbide.) in Bound Brook, NJ. Then upon his discharge he returned to Bakelite and was transferred to its plant in Ottawa, plus five other locations in his career prior to retiring in 1979 as the plant manager.

He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Aurora, Oswego American Legion Post 675 and Spring Hill, FL., VFW Post 10209.

In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, golf, fishing, hunting, shooting traps and making fishing flies. These things were only set aside for Major League baseball, pro football, crossword puzzles and picture puzzles.

George is survived by his loving wife, whom he was her daily caregiver for years, Dorothea Anna (Ellison) Dixon; a son, Edward (Judith) Dixon of Montgomery; grandchildren, Dean and Lenny Dixon and George Morrison; two step-grandchildren, Rebecca and Cheryl; six great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Barbara Gayle Navejar; granddaughter, Elizabeth Morrison; and grandson, Edward Dixon Jr.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McKeown-Dunn Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 210 S. Madison St., Oswego. Burial with military honors will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Oswego American Legion Post 675, 19 W. Washington St., Oswego, IL. 60543.
