A guest who attended the 50th wedding anniversary of Orrin and Sarah Burgess wrote the following (all spelling was left as original).
Feb the 16 1887
Golden wedding and family reunion, quite a number of relation and friends gethered at the home of Mr and Mrs Orin Burgess on wensday Feb the 16th to celebrate the 50 Anniversary of thare wedded life. Some of the most distinguished guests were thare two sons, Nelson and Amos from Polk Co. Iowa and Mrs. M. Allen of Benton Co. Minnesota, Mrs. H. G. Sargent of Hide Co. Dakota being the only child abscent, thare three daughters living near here present with thare famleys thare being 12 grand children present. Other relation and friends to the number of about 40 were present. The presents consisting of one large push rocking chare, one small rocking chare also one photo album.
The diner table was well ladon with the good things to eat of which all partook with hardy good will and a good time was had generaly.
