Sarah Zimmer ws born February 26, 1817, in Pickaway County, Ohio, the daughter of Philip and Elizabeth Valentine Zimmer, natives of Pennsylvania and Maryland, respectively. Her maternal grandparents were Jacob and Anna Mary Freeze Valentine, who remained in Frederick County, Maryland, where they are buried. On June 28, 1836, in Fairfield County, Sarah married John Decker, also a native of Ohio. They were the parents of 6 children: America, Ellen, Elizabeth, Caroline, Flora and John H. Decker. The family moved to Hancock County, Ohio, by 1850, where most of them lived the remainder of their lives. Sarah passed away June 22, 1853, in Findlay, Hancock County, and was buried in Maple Grove Cemetery there.
