He was a son of Ruth Ann (Nafus) Gerhardt, Benton, and Klaus Gerhardt, Glendale, New York. Turin was a 2007 graduate of Benton High School where he was active with the Future Farmers Of America. He loved Volkswagens and working on his car. Surviving, in additon to his parents, are siblings Jennifer Rogers, Longwood, Florida, and Jason Gerhardt (Lauren), Benton; Tiffany Gerhardt, Orangeville, and Alyce Gerhardt, at home; and his paternal grandfather, John Gerhardt, Las Vegas, Nevada, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews.
