Sarah Kidd Twist was born in the Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne, Pennsylvania to Robert Henderson Kidd, of Scottish descent and Anna Kidd, German descent. Sarah was the oldest of 3 sibling girls including Margaret Raker of Trevorton, Pa, Ethel Kidd also of Trevorton. Five siblings died in childhood and are buried together in the Wilkes-Barre City Cemetery. In 1900 she met husband Henry Salisbury Twist and raised five children. The five children were Myrtle Knill, who married Charles P. Knill, Robert Kidd Twist, husband to Frances Emmel Twist, Marjorie Dunne of Westville, New Jersey, Vera Thacker, wife of Gordan Thacker, and Hank Twist, husband of Teresa Zozzaro of Long Island. Sarah acquired a lifetime pass on the railroad from her husband Henry after his dealth. As such she was always the loving grandmother who traveled visiting relatives in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. To her grandchildren she was known as Nana. She spent her last days in Westville, New Jersey with Daughter Myrtle Knill and Grandaughter Evelyn Nordaby.
