BRIGHTON -- The death of Brighton resident Marie-France Comeau is being felt across the country.
Ms. Comeau, 38, was found dead in her home at 252 Raglan St., Brighton, on Wednesday, Nov. 25, around 1 p.m. Following a post mortem examination at the office of the Chief Coroner's office in Toronto, the Northumberland OPP deemed her death a homicide on Friday, Nov. 27.
Ms. Comeau was a corporal in the Canadian Forces and a flight attendant with the 437 transport squadron at CFB Trenton.
"Our condolences go to her family and loved ones during this time of loss," CFB Trenton Public Affairs Officer Captain Mark Peebles said. "Marie will be missed by her comrades at 437 Squadron."
Adam Frey, who spent four months working alongside Ms. Comeau, said the world will not be the same without her.
"She was a fun person who loved life and seemed to find the best about everything she did," Mr. Frey said.
Condolences from troops stationed overseas to her Raglan Street neighbours have flooded a Facebook group created in honour of Ms. Comeau.
"She was an absolutely beautiful person and friend. She was always so happy and positive and I am truly saddened by this horrible tragedy," Kim Hill Chornaby said in the Facebook memorial. "Her smile will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her and were lucky enough to call her a friend."
Jocelyn Kieffer, who lives next door to Ms. Comeau, said she didn't hear anything unusual until emergency service vehicles arrived at Ms. Comeau's home on Nov. 25.
"They took a man out of the house. He was in tears," Ms. Kieffer said, adding he was not handcuffed.
Ms. Kieffer also said Ms. Comeau had lived in the home for a year, but hadn't interacted much with neighbours.
Northumberland OPP said no further details on the cause of death will be released to preserve the integrity of the investigation as it moves forward. The OPP are not releasing details about suspects or if anyone has been charged with the murder. Constable Chris Dewsbury said the murder is an isolated incident.
"There are no present issues with regards to public safety," Const. Dewsbury said.
Ms. Comeau's funeral will be held at the National Cemetery in Ottawa, on Friday, Dec. 4 at 11 am. Her family welcomes all who wish to attend.
