On February 9, 1859, her husband died and the care of the family was put on her shoulders. In 1864 she married her second husband, David Houser, of Keyser township, DeKalb county, Ind. She also moved to this place on the farm, and remained there until 1882, when they removed to Garrett, Ind., where she lived until her death. Her second husband died Jan 4, 1891.
On June 15, 1894, she was thrown from a buggy in front of her house, and had her right shoulder dislocated. the doctor reduced this dislocation, and considered her otherwise not seriously injured. She got along apparently very nicely until a week before her burial; on Thursday, June 28, she had a sever paralytical stroke on her right side. Though she seemed to be conscious, she could not speak.
She died peacefully at 10:35 o'clock, July 3, 1894, at her home in Garrett, where her children waited on her. She always took special interest in the welfare of her children and grandchildren, which was duly appreciated by them. Although she lived in her own house alone, she said that she was not a single night alone, without one of her children or grandchildren being with her.
Mrs Houser was brought up in the Lutheran church and was a faithful member in the same until she moved with her second husband to Keyser township DeKalb Co., Ind., where they joined the Reformed church in the year 1867 in which church they remained members until their death. Her age was 78 years 3 month and 21 days. The funeral service was held in the Union church about 2 1/2 miles northwest from Garrett conducted by Rev Geo Engleman, of Auburn.
