JOHN DELBERT TOWNSLEY
John Delbert Townsley, 75 of Udall, died Nov. 20 at the Good Samaritan Village in Winfield.
Born at Atlanta on Oct 23, 1911, he was the son of Harry E. and Willie Lee Gaffney Townsley. He moved with his family to Arkansas City in 1919 and graduated form Arkansas City High School in 1933. On Jun 15, 1936, he was married to Marion Hart in Sedan.
Townsley worked in construction, including the building of Strother Field, and lived in Winfield and Derby. In 1960 he began working as a concrete foreman for Ritchey Construction, Wichita, and retired from that company in 1978.
The couple moved to Udall in 1975, and Townsley was a member of the Derby First Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Robert "Mike" Townsley, Bangkok, Thailand, Jon R. Townsley, Winfield, William H. Townsley, Kansas City: two daughter, Beverly Hartmann, West Yellowstone, Mont., Ruth A Martin, Dayton, Ohio: two brothers, Irving Townsley, Caldwell, Robert Townsley, Wichita: four sister, Gladys Townsley, Peggy Townsley, Margaret Butler, all of Arkansas City, Betty Willison, Ponca City, Okla: 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Monday at Rindt Erdman-Oldroyd Chapel, Arkansas City, with interment in Riverview Cemetery. The Rev. William E. Bowles will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society, and contributions may be made at the funeral home.
