MURRELLS INLET: Ella Earle Busbee Benson, 88, wife of the late Thomas Luther "Luke" Benson, died Saturday, August 1, 2009 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Born in Whitmire, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Carl L. and Decie Irene Busbee. Mrs. Benson worked with the USO during World War II and was a schoolteacher with the Horry County School District for 17 years. She was a member of the DAR and a charter member and President of the Riverside Club. During her high school years she became Miss Conway and was later known for love of cooking, entertaining, traveling and playing bridge.

Surviving are sons, William "Billy" Richard Benson and wife, Timna, of Conway, Thomas "Tommy" Carl Benson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; daughter, Frances Earle Benson Lambe of Hoschton, Ga.; grandchildren, Ronald Scott Lambe and wife, Jennie Player Lambe, Laura Lynn Benson Williams and husband, Ritchie Williams, Thomas Martin "Marty" Benson, and Kathleen "Katie" Earle Benson; and great-grandchildren, Kennedy Clark Lambe, Elizabeth Benson Lambe, Luke Carlyle Williams, Lawton Avery Williams, and Grayson Lynn Williams.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Conway with The Rev. Harold Lewis and The Rev. Dr. Bob Guffey officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeside Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Mrs. Benson on South Waccamaw Drive in Murrells Inlet at any time before the services on Tuesday.
