A Turkish artist and painter. His first drawings and writings were published in 1931. At around the same time, he illustrated Nazım Hikmet's books of poetry. He went to the former Soviet Union to study cinema and met famous painters like Tzara and Picasso in France. He followed closely the trajectory of European painting and after an initial period under the influence of Picasso he developed his own style. Besides painting, he produced ceramics and illustrations. He published a book consisting of a narrative accompanied by his drawings. He served as the honorary chairman of the National League of Visual Arts in France. His name is in numerous art galleries and museums around the world, in a poem, the lyrics of a song, or a book. He is one of the pioneers of modern Turkish painting, and produced masterful works in such disparate fields as caricature, sculpture, ceramics, cinema, and literature. He died at the Villejuif Hospital in Paris.
