The son of Samuel Warfield, Adam married Margaret Catherine Thomas, the daughter of Henry & Mary Ann (Abernathy) Thomas of PA, late of Walker Twp, Manilla, Rush Co IN. Adam's year of birth is based on census records, not his tombstone.

"Warfields of Maryland", by Joshua Dorsey Warfield, 1898, Pg 100:
"Samuel and Jared Warfield, of Samuel and Sarah (Welsh) Warfield, removed to Redstone, Pa. From one of them likely descended Adam Warfield of Pennsylvania, who removed to Ohio and m- Margaret Thomas. He then removed to Rush Co., Indiana, where he died in 1863; issue- Henry, John, James, David, William, Elizabeth, Margaret, Lavinia, Susan and Kate. Henry of Adam died in 1884, leaving James, David, Margaret, Jane, Polly and Adam Thomas Warfield."

In his book, J D Warfield states Adam married Margaret in OH and lists their children. No actual marriage record has been located in OH. It is my belief they married in TN, but still researching.

Adam is confirmed in Ross, Butler Co OH on the 1830 Census. After that, Adam and his large family are living in Rush Co IN where they appear on the 1840, 1850 and 1860 Census records for Walker Twp in Manilla, Rush Co IN.

Before they removed to Indiana, Adam made at least one trip from Ohio, where on 5 Oct 1826, he bought 160 acres in Rush Co IN. It is here, about 1828, he cultivated a small farm. The land is located in the "SW quarter of Section 17, Range 9". This plot can still be seen at the west corner of S County Road 300 S and S County Road 525 W in Homer.

Adam is also mentioned in the "History of Rush County IN 1888" Page 824, Paragraph 2: "The first school in Manilla, Dr. Trees says....a school house stood on the southeast corner of Adam Warfield's farm, now W.J. Ellison's." According to this statement, if any of Adam's children had inherited the family farm, the land had been sold by 1888 to Mr Ellison.

Once, while on a country drive with my Grandpa Verle, Adam's Gr-Grandson, he showed us kids his childhood home in Manilla. By then the house was surrounded by tall grass, the boards had turned dark gray and the walls were leaning. It had been abandoned for many years and I thought how sad for my Grandpa. But our Paw Paw told us many happy stories about his childhood and I guess, in the end, our memories are sometimes all we have and can bring us joy.

Children with Margaret:
1) George William Warfield (1805-1884), m: Mary Gardner (1819-1867).
2) Mary Warfield (b. 1807); no further information.
3) Elizabeth Warfield (1808-1889), m: Jacob Titus (1796-1884).

12) William Warfield (1830-aft 1870), m: Lucinda Hinton (1841-aft 1870).

Adam may have had brothers named Caleb, Uriah and Henry.

Have not yet found any records in Tennessee nor have I found any evidence that a Mary Bowman/Bowerman was a first wife of Adam. That said, any reference to such has been corrected.

Adam is my 3rd maternal Gr-Grandfather. Research is ongoing on all my Warfield ancestors.
