Missionary. In 1814 he entered Homerton College in London to train for the ministry, and in 1815 he was accepted by the London Missionary Society (LMS). He was sent to establish a mission to the Buryat Mongols of Siberia, and in October 1816 Stallybrass was ordained and selected to open a station at Irkutsk, where he arrived in March 1818. His work consisted in preaching, distributing tracts, teaching in schools, and translating the Bible. Together with another missonary, Swan, they translated the bulk of the Old Testament into Mongolian. In 1840 the Russian authorities ordered the missionaries to cease work. After returning to England in 1841 Stallybrass and Swan finished a Mongolian translation of the New Testament, which was printed in 1846. During the Crimean War he visited Russian prisoners of war, distributing bibles among them.
