Al enlisted in the army as a Private on November 26, 1940. He was promoted to 1st Sergeant and finished as a 2nd Lieutentant in Battlefield Command, serving in North Africa and Italy.
On July 26, 1947, Al was united in marriage to Helen Krubsack in Waupaca. They resided in rural Birnamwood.
He and his wife had four children who miss him very much. Two daughters, Karen (Emery) Blaskowsky, Gwen (David) McDonald and two sons, Michael (Priscilla) Kaufmann and Stef (Chris) Kaufmann.
