Bernice M. Silsby, age 83, formerly of Birnamwood, died on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

She was born on July 3, 1920 in Sheboygan, the daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa (Trumm) Kaufmann.

On June 28, 1941, Bernice was united in marriage to Myron Silsby in Birnamwood. He preceded her in death on October 28, 1989.

Bernice was employed at Sears in Milwaukee, Weinbrenner Shoes, Antigo and most recently as a nurses aid at the Homme Home of Wittenberg until her retirement. She was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church, Birnamwood and its Altar Society and was also a member of the Auxiliary of the Darling-Gunderson Post #341, American Legion, Birnamwood. Bernice enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews and going out to eat.

Survivors include one brother, John Kaufmann, Tomahawk; two sisters, Marion (Ed) Matz, and Lorraine (George) Twaroski, all of Birnamwood and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Bernice was preceded in death by a brother Alois Kaufmann and a sister Theresa Kunst.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11AM on Friday, February 13, 2004 at St. Philomena Catholic Church, Birnamwood. The Rev. Everard Scesney OFM will officiate. Interment will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 9:30AM until the time of services at the church. Schmidt-Schulta Funeral Home, Birnamwood is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Bernice will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
