MARION NATIVE'S BODY FOUND IN LOUISVILLE HARBOR CANAL

Funeral services for Wallace Mattingly, 49, Louisville painter who was born and reared at St. Mary, were conducted at 2 PM last Friday by the Rev. Hubert Hagan at the grave in St. Charles Cemetery. Mass was sung at St. Charles at 6 AM, Saturday. Mr. Mattingly apparently met his death by accidental drowning. His body, floating in Louisville's Portland Canal, was sighted last Wednesday afternoon by the crew of a Naval Reserve craft. The Jefferson County coroner, Dr. George Dwyer, estimated that the body had been in the water about 10 days. Mr. Mattingly lived alone and was last seen alive by members of his family on Friday, November 2. His wife is deceased. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Delores Chisholm, Ringgold, La.; Mrs. Charles Lush, Charlotte, Bernardine and Mary Alice Mattingly, Louisville, and four sons, William S. Mattingly, Jr., James R., James Bernard and Gary Wayne Mattingly. The body was brought to Bosley Funeral Home last Wednesday night. Serving as pallbearers were Paul and Donald Shewmaker, Same C. and Joe Abell, Harvey Logsdon and Jerry Ewing.
