Susan Simpson Miller, 37, of Cumming, GA went to be with her Lord on May 2, 2009.
A devoted wife of 15 years to Andrew D. Miller, Sr. and loving mother to Hannah Joy, Madeline Helen, Katelyn Ashley and Andrew D. Miller II, she was born in Atlanta to Barbara Louise Simpson and the late William Lafayette Simpson, Sr. Susan graduated from Clarkston High School and received her BS from Clemson University in 1993.
She was President of the Forsyth County Right to Life, Secretary of the Forsyth County Republican Party, an active member of Cumming New Life Church and the Director of the Victory Christian Academy.
In addition to her husband, children and mother, Susan is survived by her sisters, Lisa (Roger) Sherrard of Strongsville, OH and Sandra (Jeff) Arrow of Dacula, GA; brother, William (Samantha) Simpson of Keller, TX; and ten nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10am on Thursday, May 7, 2009, at the Cumming New Life Church. Pastor David Harris will officiate. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, SC. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, from 2-4 and from 6-8pm at the funeral home.

Susan and Andrew Miller celebrated their son's birth six weeks ago. The couple met while serving on the student council at Clarkston High School. The doctor wanted her to abort the baby before he would start treating the disease. To do otherwise, he said, might prove damaging to the mother and the child. Mrs. Miller and her husband didn't want to abort. They sought options. They located an oncologist at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston who agreed to treat Mrs. Miller. She underwent 12 weeks of chemotherapy during her pregnancy.
Today, Andrew D. Miller II is 6 weeks old and doing fine.
"She did not assume her life above the baby's," said Andrew D. Miller Sr., her husband of 15 years. "She loved being pregnant. She loved being a mother."
Children — their well-being — was the focus for the 1989 Clarkston High School grad. Two years ago, she founded Victory Christian Academy, a kindergarten through fifth-grade school in Cumming. Plans are to expand to middle grades next school term. Mrs. Miller wanted to offer young people an opportunity to thrive in small close-knit classes, her husband said.
"Public schools are an institution," he said, "so rather than try to turn that ship, she started a school."
Jennie Berry teaches a fourth- and fifth-grade class at Victory Christian. She talked to Mrs. Miller about the school after she read a newspaper advertisement about its start-up.
"I was drawn by her devotion to make sure kids have a good Christian education — a school that would love and care for them and minister to them and their families," Mrs. Berry said. "She led us in that."

The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McDonald and Son Funeral Home & Crematory, which is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Miller was always active in causes that reflected her core beliefs. She was never one to sit on the sidelines and complain, said her husband. He met his future wife at a student council meeting when they attended Clarkston High.
In Cumming, the 1993 Clemson University graduate served as secretary for the Forsyth County Republican Party. She co-chaired the Forsyth County Right to Life, where she organized fund-raisers, petition drives for legislation and other events.
Steve Bowman, the director of development for Georgia Right to Life, saw up close Mrs. Miller's dedication; he lives in Forsyth County and belongs to its Right to Life chapter.
"This lady was the real deal," Mr. Bowman said. "When she learned of her [pregnancy and cancer diagnosis], she knew she would not sacrifice her son's life. She had a strong ethic for life."
