D.R. says that he was born Jan. 22, 1832 in Germany. The son of Mathias Findling. His mother's name was not listed. At the age of seven, the family emigrated to America. Valentine was reared in Ohio, and in 1861, came to Indiana and engaged in plastering at Indianapolis till 1866, when he removed to Tipton county and purchased eighty-two acres of land. He then added another forty acres to this, and then had eighty-five acres on his farm under cultivation and well drained with tile. Mr. Findling was married, in 1861, to Miss Louisa Geyer, who died in 1868. By this union there are three children living; William, Emma and John. He was next married, in March 1868, to Miss Margaret Kiser. They had five children; Edward, Herbert, Frank, Arthur and Lela May.
