In 1814, Isaac enlisted in the VA militia and rose to the rank of Corporal while stationed at Cocke, VA. He was appointed Lieutenant Colonel of the 126th VA Regiment, Nicholas County Militia in 1818 when Nicholas County was formed by the VA assembly.
