Mason City- Edward J. Popp, 99, of 635 S. Grant, died Tuesday (May 03, 2005) at the Presbyterian Homes on Lake Minnetonka, Spring Park, MN.

A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday (May 07, 2005) at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams with Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 P.M. Friday (May 06,2005) at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City where a rosary will be said at 7 P.M.

Edward Joseph Popp was born in Plymouth on December 29, 1905 a son of John and Katherine (Fitzel) Popp. He is one of fourteen children from a farm family. Edward married in 1931 to Clara Johnson, who died in 1981.

Ed worked 39 years for Armour/Decker Meat Packing Plant as a ham boner and foremen, retiring from the meat packing plant at the age of 65. After retiring from Armour he started a water softener distributorship with his final retirement being at the age of 80 years. He personally accomplished completing construction of five homes in Mason City.

His main hobbies were being able to assist family, friends, and neighbors with most any mechanical repair. He enjoyed spending his winters in Arizona with his close friend Mary Leaverton. Edward loved spending time with his family.

Edward was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Edward is survived by his two children, Lamar (Nancy) Popp, The Village, Florida; Lucille (Jerry) Hobbs, Schererville, Indiana; six grandchildren; Jim Greer, Dan Greer, Lynn Brady, Annette Scotti, Lisa Popp, Jennifer Rigdon; ten great-grandchildren, Steve, Morgan, Jack, Blake, Lauren, Danielle, Nicholas, Grace, Madaline, and Graycen; and one sister, Bertha.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Clara, and twelve brothers and sisters.
