Juliaetta Estelle BUTTS, born in Glennville, Alabama about 1851 was the daughter of Francis C. BUTTS and Catherine Eleanor DANIELL. Her father died 9 February 1859. Between 1860 and 1870, Estelle's mother remarried to Hodijah ELAM. The family resided in Americus, Sumter county, Georgia, where her mother died in 1884. E. J. BUTTS married L. A. Russell on 24 October 1886 in Greenville, Butler County, Alabama. The wedding took place in the home of her sister, Catherine, wife of William E. PAYNE. Estelle and L. A. do not appear to have had children. Her obituary was published in the Montgomery Advertiser:
TUSKEGEE Aug. 30 - After an illness of several weeks, Mrs. L. A. Russell passed away at her home on South Elm Street Wednesday morning at 1 o'clock. For some time she had been helpless from an attack of paralysis. She is survived by her husband, L. A. Russell, and by two sisters, Mrs. [William E.] Payne and Mrs. [Hillman P.] Holloway of Mobile. Funeral services were conducted at the residence Wednesday afternoon by Rev. A. L. Sellers and interment was made in the local cemetery.
