Worthy Mother Laid to Rest

Mrs. James Burns of Rockland Has Gone to her Reward in Heaven


Mrs. James Burns, one of Rockland's oldest residents died at her home last Saturday evening after any illness of several months.

Mrs. Burns was born in Ireland in 1837, making her 78 at the time of her death.

She came to Rockland with friends when about 15 years of age when she became acquainted with was was married to James Burns in January 1859. Thirteen children were born to the couple, three of whom, Sadie, Mrs. James Weir and Garrett preceded her in death. Those, besides a grief stricken husband, who survive are: James of Wisconsin, Stephen and Mrs. Sharkey of Butte, Montana, Mrs. Corbeil of Houghton, Mrs. C. O'Rourke, Mrs. Charles Woodbury and Patrick of Ontonagon, Mrs. William Huddleston, Mrs. P. Cosgrove and Andrew Burns of Rockland. There are 35 grandchildren and ?? great-grandchildren besides the many friends who deeply mourn the loss of a good Christian mother, a devoted wife, a lovable companion and a charitable neighbor.

Father Linnemann of Rockland assisted by Father Mallaly conducted the funeral service with the Requiem High Mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church Tuesday morning and burial was made in the Catholic cemetery in Rockland beside the three children.

The funeral was largely attended by people from all over the county, who wished to pay their last tokens of respect to this lovable woman.

The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the community in their sorrow.
