Rev. Father Furay also served as spiritual father of the Jesuit community at St. Louis University from 1941 until his death. A member of Creighton's first class in 1878, he was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws in 1928 at Creighton's Golden Jubilee celebration.
