Winford Alvin Black

RUSK- Funeral for Winford Alvin Black 72 of Rusk, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in Rusk First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Everett McCollum and the Rev. Don Copeland officiating. Masonic graveside rites will be conducted in Shiloh Cemetery near Alto under direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home of Rusk.

Mr. Black died Dec. 1st in Tyler. He was born in Alto and lived in Rusk 56 years. Mr. Black was a member of Rusk First United Methodist Church and Served on the administrative board. He retired from Rusk State Hospita1in 1986 with 32 years service as a purchasing agent. He was a member of Rusk Lions Club, Rusk Euclid Masonic Lodge No. 45 and Sharon Temple in Tyler. Mr. Black was a retired peace officer and member of the Rusk Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years.

Survivors include wife, Norma O. Black of Rusk; mother, Ruth Brunt Black of Rusk; sons and daughters-in-law Rodney and Carol Black of San Antonio and Richard and Sandi Black of Longview; daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Jeff Hudson of Longview; brother, David Black of Rusk; sister, Winnie Jo Elkins of New York City. N.Y.: grandchildren, Cara, Jason and Andy Hudson of Tyler and David Broughton of Anahuac, and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Pallbearers will be Billy Joe Killion, Carl Lee Matthews, Beuford Williams, Roger Williams, Dan Williams and Doyle Rasberry. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Pierce, Joel Cummins, Travis Williams, Wayne Poole, Jim Tankersley, Bill Pierce, Gerald Williams, Bill Draper and members of the choir of Rusk First United Methodist Church.

Visitation with the family will be in the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.
