Eugene "Red" Attaway, 86, of Sour Lake died Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Sour Lake, he was born November 11, 1923, to Dennis J. and Frances Evalena (Dennis) Attaway.

Red retired from Texaco Producing Department as a pumper following thirty-six years of service. He was a longtime member of First Christian Church in Sour Lake and proudly named "Old Timer of the Year" in 2008. He loved fishing, traveling, playing dominoes, but, mostly loved following his Hardin Jefferson basketball games. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Force during World War II where he flew more than thirty missions over Europe. His greatest joy was sharing with his large family and telling stories about his exceptional life. His life was truly a blessing to those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jodie Attaway of Sour Lake; sons, Mike Attaway and his wife Cheryl of Sour Lake and Joe Attaway and his wife Vangie of Houston; daughter, Sissie Pricer and her husband Rob of The Colony, Texas; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

Funeral service will be 10am Friday, March 19, 2010, at First Christian Church in Sour Lake. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery in Sour Lake under the direction of Broussard's in Kountze. A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, March 18, 2010, from 5pm until 8pm at the church.
