Uncle Joe dropped out of school his senior year to enlist in the army. He became a paratrooper and was wounded in 1945 when an explosion sent pieces of shrapnel up and down his neck and spine. After he came home, he went back to school and graduated. He entered college to become a minister. He started having bad headaches. They did surgery, but just sewed him back up. He had cancer everywhere that shrapnel had hit him. The army denied the cancer was caused by wounds. He died a few days later leaving his widow, Mollie, who was 5 months pregnant and a 10 month-old daughter, Nancy, his father Bill, sisters and their families, Lorene Ingram and Mary Hoagland, brothers Gerald and Gene, mt grandpa, Joseph Philpot, aunts, uncles and cousins.
