Mrs. Bettie Ruth, 92, Dies at Houlka

Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 pm, at the Houlka Methodist Church for Mrs. Bettie Carter Ruth, who died at 11:55 pm, Saturday, at the home of a son, Merrill Carter, in Houlka, following a lengthy illness. She was 92.

Rev. Thomas J Murphy officiated. Burial was in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery with Houlka Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Ruth was the daughter of the late Daniel S Johnson and Elizabeth Tucker Johnson, pioneer resident of Chickasaw County. She was born and lived all of her life in Chickasaw County. She was a member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church, member of the Houlka Chapter O E S, honorary member of the Houlka Home and Garden Club; active in church, civic and social circles until her health failed.

Survivors are two son, Merrill Carter of Houlka and J T Carter of Mobile, Ala.; one daughter, Mrs. Ellie Brazda of Ranger, Texas; a brother, George Johnson of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Maggie Carter of Clovis, New Mexico; three step daughters, Miss Mildred Ruth of Houlka, Mrs. Myrtie Thompson of Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. Sadie Winter of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, six grand step children and a number of step great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Andrew Kirby, Hubert Houston, James Loyd Collums, Calvin Brown, Ike James and Edward Brown.
